Thanks to Sex and the City, Manolo Blahnik is a household name. And while you might think Sarah Jessica Parker is the world’s leading collector of these fancy shoes. It turns out Carrie Bradshaw incarnate has nothing on the Canary Islands-raised shoe designer himself, who has 30,000 Manolo Blahnik prototypes in his home in southwestern England!
“I don’t live in a house. I live in a shoe museum! ‘Shoe mausoleum’ would be better! I lost about 300 in a flood in London. But it’s O.K. I saved some of them.”
Fortunately, this pair was saved!
Manolo learned how to make shoes by watching his mother, who used to make her own espadrilles for fun, according to Vanity Fair.
He knows he is beloved by the fashion biz, but you might be surprised to know the feeling isn’t entirely mutual. “I’ve never been interested in fashion,” he told the magazine. “I do fashion—yes. But let’s say I don’t follow it.”
That comment is hard to believe, but it certainly hasn’t stopped him from designing the most gorgeous shoes on the planet!
Seriously, if you want to see more Manolo shoe goodness, I recommend you head on over to his Instagram account. I think I’ve been sort of mesmerized by it for the last 20 minutes!
