Paul Smith has opened a new flagship store on Mayfair’s Albemarle Street designed by 6a Architects, selling menswear and womenswear as well as a selection of furniture.
The interior is split into three main areas each with an individual look and feel. An immaculately honed selection of sculptures, paintings and furniture are dispersed throughout the shop, creating the air of refined eclecticism Paul Smith is famed for.
The women’s area is spacious, inspired by Mayfair’s rich art history and nodding to the work of painter Ben Nicholson and sculptor Barbara Hepworth. Elegant rails showcase the women’s clothing collections and handsome cabinets display accessories. The walls of the shoe department are an injection of fun, decorated with thousands of dominos.
The men’s area is modernist and masculine in style. Organic wood furniture and fixtures have been custom made by Terence Conran’s British sustainable furniture makers, Benchmark, and the room features an end-grain wood block floor. A black steel circular rail displays tailoring and three full-length windows overlook a small garden, complete with vast bright yellow-coloured panels.
