Though known for his provocative conical bras, skirts for men, and outlandish runway shows, Gaultier is the product of a classical training. He apprenticed with Jean Patou and Pierre Cardin at the age of 18. Gaultier showed his first collection in October 1976, and launched his label the following year.
Jean Paul Gualtier presented his new spring/summer collection 2014 at Paris Fashion Week. As each season before, this fashion show was not just another fashion show, it was a parade show with all that singing and dancing! It started with Gaultier’s interpretation of the legendary “Grease” and Coco Rocha was John Travolta. Rock and lots of leather looks and also contrasted with feminine tulle full skirts.
Then came the parts tango dancing and the tribute to Latinos with lots of salsa. Below a selection of the new spring/summer 2014 collection from Jean Paul Gaultier presented during the Paris Fashion Week.
“All my design comes from taking something that already exists and working on changing it in some way. Look underneath the way I have twisted it to make it ‘Gaultier’ and things are fairly conservative. And that attitude stretches beyond my work, into wider issues.”
