Vogue has charted the career of Hubert de Givenchy in a book by Drusilla Beyfus, former Vogue features editor. “Hubert de Givenchy carried on the traditions of haute couture within a modern aesthetic,” Beyfus told to Vogue. “His style at heart was minimalist, with every tailored seam and dart counting in the final effect. He developed the idea of separates made to Paris designer standards, featuring flexible pieces that could be combined this way and that, with other items of apparel.”
“His are the only clothes in which I am myself. He is far more than a couturier, he is a creator of personality,” Hubert de Givenchy’s muse Audrey Hepburn said of the designer.
