Are you a truly last-minute shopper? As in: “Oh man, I forgot to buy my sister a present and I’m already on my way to her house” kind of shopper? Well, don’t fret, because here’s our super-last-minute guide to the best presents to buy your friends and families when you’re already at the airport. Because, yeah, we’ve been there.
JFK, New York City: You’ll be spoilt for choice at JFK, where you can pick up anything from a Victoria’s Secret fragrance gift set to an Hermes scarf. But my top pick for fail-safe gifts would definitely be stationery from Muji—a packet of the Japanese retailer’s best-pens-ever and some of its brilliant, pocket-size notebooks should do the trick.
LAX, Los Angeles: At LAX, if you’re flying east and looking for a fun, festive, people-pleasing quick gift, pick up a massive box of See’s Lollypops—a candy gourmand’s favorite that’s unfindable on the East Coast!
SFO, San Francisco: In SFO’s terminal two, there’s a Kiehl’s and a Mango—both rare stores to find in U.S. airports, which means whomever you buy for will have no idea you picked up the pressie so last-minute! At Kiehl’s, unless you’re spending a lot, I’d recommend going for one major product over a gift set full of smaller sample-size products. I’ve never known anyone to turn up her nose at a bottle of the company’s legendary Creme de Corps.
And at Mango, I’m usually more into the brand’s clothes—but it does have some accessories to be reckoned with—like this premium leather clutch, above. It would make a killer gift.
MIA, Miami: Want to be a hero this season? Come home from Miami’s international airport with this Coach Borough Bag in polished calfskin, one of this season’s hottest It bags.
ORD, Chicago: Passing through Chicago and looking for a Chicago-y gift? O’Hare boasts a branch of the Chicago History Museum store—where you can pick up this cool local fashion history tome: Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures From the Chicago History Museum.
DEN, Denver: I can’t even begin to count how many hours I’ve logged connecting flights at the Denver airport. I’ve really come to like this light-filled, massive, moving-sidewalk-connected space. And if I was there now, looking for a gift, I’d head straight to the Body Shop store and pick up a ton of the brand’s earth-friendly, not-tested-on-animals Body Butters—either to stack and gift all in one or as stocking stuffers. And then I’d head to the second floor of the airport and eat nachos.
ATL, Atlanta: Atlanta is one of this country’s busiest airports—so there’s bound to to be lots of travelers passing through this holiday season. Head for an oasis of relative calm within the airport terminal at prep-mecca Brooks Brothers. You can never go wrong, giftwise, with a cashmere crewneck sweater.
DFW, Dallas: How many people do you know who are making New Year’s resolutions to cut back on their coffee intake? Help them out with a gorgeous 12 Holidays of Tea gift set from Teavana.
