“The World Health Organisation estimates that 20,000 people a year die in developing countries from pesticide poisoning, and a further 3 million people suffer chronic health problems” we read on their website.
Wellington-born label Kowtow is a designer brand which combines fashion with ethical and sustainable values. The label designs clothes that are consistently true to their own minimal, androgynous and classic aesthetic. In 2012 Kowtow celebrated winning the Fashion Category at the Green Lifestyle Awards 2012 in Australia.
The Kowtow collection is based on it’s premium certified fairtrade organic cotton and dyed using GOTS dyes that are free from formaldehyde, nickel, lead and other heavy metals. The factory is located in Kolkata, India where workers have the benefit of working only with certified organic cotton, in a well lit, well ventilated and spacious working environment. Their belief that no one would buy fashion armed with the knowledge that it was produced in a slave trade economy, has inspired them to give people the buying power and choice to choose clothing that is ethically made.
