I have a guilty thing with photos of celebrities at the airport: I’m always so impressed and inspired, pledging to myself that I too will wear the best outfit I can think of the next time I fly. Without fail, though, I reach for my same comfortable basics and forget about the entire thing. That’s why these photos of massively popular K-Pop band Girls’ Generation made me smile.
These ladies are huge stars overseas, but not one of them chose a tailored, short, or uncomfortable-looking getup. Rather, they’re wearing the exact sort of stuff I think is smart for travel: comfy overalls, stretchy skinny jeans, sneakers, and flat sandals that are easy to slip on and off.
Short overalls, plus a baseball tee and cap, are trendy and guaranteed comfortable. Plus, you just know that’s her favorite pair of broken-in sneakers.
You can totally wear a sweatshirt to the airport, but I want to copy her lead and reach for something artfully ripped or slashed instead (and not my “vintage” Boston University one).
I already have my go-to plane jeans (super-stretchy skinnies that hold their shape like a pro). But for the top, I usually reach for baggy tees or a worn-in plaid button-up. This tie-front blouse will feel just as good when sitting but looks a whole lot more polished.
There’s no need to overthink it. A simple tee and shorts combo looks nice and definitely more pulled-together than yoga pants. And can I hear another cheer for the fact that sneakers like this are in style right now? Hurrah!
No tricky-to-walk-in heels or complicated boots here. Wearing simple, cute, flat sandals is deliciously normal-girl of her.
The easiest way to put some zing in an outfit that’s gotta be comfortable enough for a long flight is with color. Switch regular blue denim for minty green and, ta-da, you’re standing out.
More shorts! While I live in my true-blue cutoffs all summer, I like the look of a white pair with a buttoned, sleeveless blouse as a more polished option.
I’ve cringed at restrictive-looking skirt and top pairings at the airport, but if you love the look, doing it as a denim pencil and tucked-in tee couldn’t be easier.
