Every single time I’ve pulled out my overalls this year, I am met with some sort of teasing from my fiancé (or a more genuinely confused question about why I’m wearing them). I get it to a point: They’re crazy-comfy, a factor not often associated with sexy clothes, and they remind me of my middle-school self, likely not a vibe he wants to conjure up. I shrug it off (did I mention how comfortable they are??) and have accepted that it’s the kind of item that’ll never achieve any level of guy-hot.
And then I saw Hanneli Mustaparta at a London dinner for Frame Denim.
The Frame pair she’s wearing is more fitted than mine (likely because they’re sized like most jeans, with numbers that correlate to your waist), and the bib rises up to the very top of her chest. That crucial fit factor allows her to wear it without a top underneath (like, whoa!), a styling trick I pretty much guarantee would make any man think differently about overalls.
Since I wasn’t positive what her situation up top was, I did some photo sleuthing and found this shot of her with pal Caroline Winberg. Seen from the side, it seems fairly obvious that she’s indeed sans-blouse and wearing a sheer, polka-dot bralette instead.
If the exposed underpinnings feels like a bit too much, we can take a step back together. Nikki detailed three celeb-inspired ways to style them, from a casual day running errands to date night (and they all involve shirts).
