Science Has Spoken: High Heels Are the Sexiest Thing Women Could Wear

A new study out of France has confirmed what we’ve always suspected: High heels are pretty dang sexy. Women wearing them receive help and attention from men more quickly than ladies in flats, which doesn’t entirely surprise me, but I loved the findings when behavioral scientist and University of Brittany professor Nicolas Guéguen added in another factor, reported by the Daily Express.

His 19-year-old model was dressed in a tight top as a constant and then her shoes were switched up. When she attempted to get pedestrians to stop and answer a survey while wearing flats, 40 percent of men responded. That number doubled to 80 percent when she was in high heels. He took the experiment to a bar too and found that even when seated, the woman was approached by a man, on average, in 14 minutes if wearing flats and only 7 minutes if wearing heels.

Guys, she was seated during that experiment! I’m stunned to think guys would even notice if you were barefoot and sitting at a bar, but this proves otherwise. Even though what you wear hits the eye first (especially a figure-flaunting number), there’s reason to believe that stilettos give off a sexy vibe that men pick up on.

“Wearing high heels makes women look more long-legged and gives them a sexier posture,” Mairi Macleod, Ph.D., an evolutionary biologist, said. “This could lead some men to perceive women in heels as more sexually available, explaining why these women are approached more readily.”

[Follow-up study suggestion: Please repeat the experiment but have the woman wear a tight top and flats and then a T-shirt and heels. Those would be some results I’d be interested in seeing.]

The study had another tidbit related to the way guys regarded women’s outfits: College-age men who were surveyed said they thought red, followed by blue, green, and white, most suggested that a woman would be willing to sleep with them on the first date. Interesting.
