There’s a new piece of sort-of jewelry really taking the idea of diamonds as a girl’s best friend to totally new levels. Dr. Chawan of India’s Shekhar Eye Research Center is offering contact lenses with a ring of diamonds in them, making the eyeball the newest frontier for accessorizing (he was inspired by jewels in his wife’s teeth, FYI).
The pair also has gold in them and will cost $15,000, but shoppers should purchase them with the feeling that it’s a family heirloom they’re buying—the company told me that they’ll attach the gems to new lenses (with a different prescription) for a small fee. It sounds kind of insane, but they’re created to keep the eye safe with the diamonds sitting away from the cornea and allowing oxygen to pass by to ward off would-be irritation.
Americans can shop a pair at Esthetic Eyes in Beverly Hills.
