Pitti Uomo 87 will see the unveiling of the Pitti Bag, a limited edition bag developed jointly by Pitti Immagine and Consorzio Vera Pelle: an exclusive model designed for top buyers and journalists participating in this edition of the event.
The Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale (Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium) is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1994 by a small group of Tuscan tanners faithful to the tradition of vegetable-tanned leather (also referred to as ‘vacchetta leather’). Today, the Consortium brings together 23 artisan tanneries from the Tuscan Leather District – which share the same production philosophy and a niche, high quality product – and works to safeguard and promote their centuries-old tradition, deeply rooted in the Tuscan region, ensuring the quality of the raw materials and the highest levels of craftsmanship.
The Consortium and its members have always paid special attention to the environment that surrounds them and to people. Theirs is a production philosophy that combines their work with the essence of the guiding theme of this winter edition of Pitti Immagine: Walkabout Pitti. A basic exploration of walking, an ode to the multiformity of in terms of technique, use and style of clothing, and the centrality of its accessories. Nowadays, walking means taking care of ourselves, making our mark on the things we do and think, paying more attention to the people and environment around us. And it is thanks to the very concept of slow life that the master artisan tanners, heirs to centuries of experience, put care and passion into the slow process that transforms raw hide into leather.
