The fashion world has been waiting with bated breath to see the fruits of Peter Copping’s first collection as creative director of Oscar de la Renta, after the celebrated designer passed away late last year—and he didn’t disappoint. Tonight, Copping brought de la Renta’s quintessential elegance to the fall 2015 collection—from elegant daywear in the form of self-tie silk blouses and punchy skirts in red, white and blue tweed to drop-waist silk gazar flounce dresses that we so often appropriate with the ebullience and style of Carrie Bradshaw (and also her real-life persona, SJP).
While respecting the house’s namesake’s legacy, Copping also injected a youthful lightness and edginess to the collection—this collection isn’t solely for ladies who lunch, it’s for girls who just wanna have fun. Case in point: besties and March Vogue cover girls Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift were propped in the front row. For them, sheer illusion dresses with exposed bra details and romantic cocktail dresses that would be a dream to dance the night away in. Colors were rich with crushed raspberry, vibrant teal, and Yves Klein blue juxtaposed with vivid yellows and Schiaparelli pink.
With daywear covered, there was nowhere left to go, but evening. We’re talking magnificent, intricate, regal gowns. Some of my favorites were ’60s-inspired with a Jackie O feel, such as a black and gold column. Feeling more decadent? Opt for the embellished evening gowns (which has me hypothesizing which Academy Award nominee will get her hands on them first. The Oscars are on Sunday night!)
