I’m really excited about Blake Lively’s new movie, Age of Adaline, guys. It’s the story of a woman who stays 29 forever, living through 10 decades, and you know what that means, right? Costumes, costumes, costumes!
“We wanted a retro feel to all her clothes to emphasize that she’s an old soul, [and while] she appears contemporary and young, she has the essence of someone who has been here for a hundred years,” costume designer Angus Strathie said. “She hasn’t stopped buying clothes. But when she does, she picks things with an eye toward the clothes she grew up with. She always looks smart but not flashy.”
“The beauty about Blake is that she isn’t afraid to try things. She’d push me to take things further, and she wasn’t afraid [to try things] if it was right for the character,” makeup artist Monica Huppert added. There’s a ton of Gucci used in the movie but a fair amount of vintage too, which helped evoke the feeling of a woman who’s been collecting pieces for decades.
We got an exclusive peek at her 1955 look, shown on one of nine Adaline “Through the Ages” character posters and it’s pretty darn chic. No joke: I plan on copying that knotted silk scarf look within the week.
