The CFDA Award Nominations Are Here: Mary-Kate and Ashley, Marc Jacobs, and Instagram Get Nods

The nominees for fashion’s version of the Oscars, the CFDA Awards, were announced last night in New York City, and the list is pretty much stacked with heavy-hitters. Similar to the statuettes passed out by the Academy, nominees and the eventual winners are decided via collected votes from the 450+ members of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) and organized into a few main categories.

The awards will unfurl its red carpet on June 1—in case you forgot, last year was when Rihanna received the Fashion Icon Award and wowed everyone in a mostly sheer gown.

Nominees for Women’s Wear Designer of the Year:

Nominees for Swarovski Award for Women’s Wear:

Nominees for Swarovski Award for Accessory Design:

The Swarovski awards are given out to emerging talent and include financial support (as well as access to the sparkliest supply closets in the world).

Also being honored: J.Crew’s Mickey Drexler, Betsey Johnson, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, and, surprise, Instagram! The social media platform is receiving the the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard, a notable choice as it’s the first time the honor’s been given to a company rather than an individual. Past winners have included names like photographers Bruce Weber and Bill Cunningham and fashion critic Cathy Horyn.
