The Secret Trick to Make Your Old Skirts Feel Fresh for Spring

Hmm! The super-stylish Jamie Chung just shared a piece of fashion advice with us I’m totally loving, especially since it’s friendly on the wallet and good for the environment. Instead of spending money on new skirts for the season and ditching old styles that have fallen out of favor, turn what you’ve got into something new!

“I take mine to my alterationist all the time and change up the cut and the look. It’s a new way to freshen up certain items you have in your closet that you kind of want to give an edge to,” she said.

And what exactly is she having her tailor do? This spring it’s all about adding a slit. “We’re not talking Angelina Jolie side-slit [from the Oscars], but there are all these interesting asymmetrical cuts. It’s kind of like a random take on the pencil skirt.”

I think she’s talking about simple A-line styles (remember the ones you bought for your very first job or interview?), but you can have anything re-imagined. Check out what images you’re drawn to in magazines or online, and if you have something similar-ish in your closet, bring them in to see if a tailor can work some magic.
