When you think of menswear in the traditional sense, you might think of an exceptionally tailored suit or a structured combination of the “top, pants, and jacket.” What I am looking forward to this upcoming Men’s NYFW is more of what has been building up over the past few years…. thinking way outside of the box! To kick off the first stand alone Men’s NYFW, I am craving to see more of the details that have expanded upon what menswear means to not only the fashion aficionado, but to the person that views clothing as a purely functional item. With the strong emergence of Alexander Wang and sportswear as a highly versatile category, the catwalk has been graced with luxe sneakers, texture rich layers, and elongated shirts that are not traditionally associated with menswear.
Noted players turning the volume up in menswear that will no doubt stun on the opening to Men’s NYFW include Public School, Hood by Air, and Orley. All of which will definitely make you rethink the classic staples you have in your closet. With the classic idea of menswear turned on its head, I am looking forward to designers presenting more capes, voluminous jackets, and printed trousers to translate on to the street.
