When it comes to shopping, most tourists think of Paris or New York or London, but apparently the city that gets the most tourist dollars when it comes to fashion is…Milan.
Well-heeled tourists to do the most shopping in Milan, according to a report from WWD, with the rest of the ranked cities including Paris, London, Rome, and New York City (in order).
To be fair, the organization conducting the research is a company that operates Italian airports and consulting firm Pambianco Strategie di Impresa, so the study may be biased. Still, numbers can’t lie: Milanese shoppers average about $1,486, compared with $800 spent in NYC. Part of the reason Milan claimed the top spot is that visitors are thought to come there with shopping as the main purpose, rather than the other listed cities, which count additional big attractions.
