Pierre Cardin returns to the catwalk

Pierre Cardin returns to the catwalk, after 6 years of absence, with his futuristic design and geometrical shapes. “I was the youngest couturier in Paris when I started, and now I’m the oldest, (…) It’s extraordinary, I’m still here!” he said. His fascination with space helped him reinvent the feminine wardrobe in the 1950s with new and revolutionary silhouettes. The collection showcases Cardin’s signature space-age designs, including a total of 138 retro looks. The designer, who turns 90 this week, will celebrate with a show on July 7th. “This is a comeback for me, and it’s a great pleasure,” said Cardin in an interview with AFP. “I hadn’t shown a man’s line in Paris for a very long time. It’s a chance to present my style, my personality, what made my name”. The new collection remains faithful to the futuristic theme, which has been a favorite of the designer’s since the 1960’s.
