Amsterdam Fashion Week continued on Friday 12th of July at the Westergasfabriek. The first catwalk of the evening was SIS by Dutch label Spijkers & Spijkers. The brand was founded in 2000 by Arnhem-born designer sisters Truus and Riet Spijkers.
Their Brigitte Bardot inspired SS/2014 collection consists of a wide range of ready to wear pieces: from suits to jumpsuits and knits; from camisoles to shirts and t-shirts; from shorts to denims and trousers.
Ruching is definitely one of the predominant elements of the collection, applied on the waist of shirts, dresses, skirts and trousers or on the neck hem of their off-shoulder puffy-sleeved shirts and dresses. Another key element was the deep V neckline, used on dresses and camisoles. They offered a variety of dresses to suit any body shape: wrap on dresses, knits or shirt dresses.
Besides two black pieces (a dress and a cardigan), the colour palette chosen by Spijkers & Spijkers is very delicate, soft and fresh: white, light blue, peach, orange, light brown and ochre. They also used prints and patterns: chequers, colourful flowers, abstract grey and white shapes, white and blue stripes. The result is a very wearable and romantic collection with a south-of-France holiday feel.
