When does a classic plain white T-shirt—the perfect summer wardrobe staple—become the ultimate luxury item? When Kanye West puts his name on it, that’s when.
The rapper and Kim Kardashian baby-daddy recently teamed up with French casualwear label A.P.C. (read all about the collab, right here!) to design a capsule collection of four basics pieces—one short-sleeve hooded sweatshirt, a long-sleeve hoodie, a “Hip-Hop T-shirt,” and jeans. The goodies range in price from €120 (for the tee) to €280 (for the hoodie).
Yes. That’s right. The plain white 100 percent cotton “Hip-Hop T-Shirt” costs €120. Let’s all take a minute to let that sink in.
While I haven’t personally had the privilege of trying it on, the top is described as “very loose,” and there don’t seem to be any real design features distinguishing this tee from, say, most other luxury-level plain tees. Short sleeves? Check. Ribbed neckline? Check. The only unique selling point seems to be the words “A.P.C. KANYE” silkscreened inside the T-shirt’s neckline.
The simple and straightforward nature of the tee’s design hasn’t stopped folks from snapping it up, though. At time of publication, there were rampant online reports that the entire Kanye West for A.P.C. collection had already sold out, though we were able to place the T-shirt in our shopping carts in sizes XS, S, and XL.
